He is surrounded by enemies, isolated on a ship in the middle of a dark ocean, and completely blinded by his obsession with retrieving the scarlet eyes of his fallen clan.
My theory is that this upcoming batch of chapters will force Kurapika into a corner where he has to burn through years of his own life expectancy to protect Prince Oito and the baby Woble. Togashi didn't build this complex, heavily restricted system for no reason—we are about to witness the absolute breaking point of the Kurapika character, and it is going to leave the entire fandom emotionally devastated.
